Understanding Ripple Swell

Ripple, a unique corporation in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space, organizes an annual conference called Swell. Swell brings together top figures from the digital currency and blockchain industry. The conference was first announced in August 2017 and held in October of the same year.

Ripple Swell 2017

Keynote speakers included Dr. Ben Bernanke, former Chair of the Federal Reserve, and Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web. Don Tapscott, the co-author of "Blockchain Revolution: How the Technology Behind Bitcoin Is Changing Money, Business, and the World," also delivered a speech.

Swell 2017 featured payments experts and industry luminaries who discussed blockchain implementations, real-world use cases, and evolving customer demands for global payments.

Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum, participated in a panel that explored the practical uses and future development of blockchain technology.

The conference also included sessions tailored for RippleNet customers, regulatory discussions, and trends in the digital asset world. Representatives from first-mover banks shared their use cases involving XRP Ledger and related technology.

Ripple Swell 2019

The 2019 Ripple Swell conference took place in Singapore. Keynote speakers included Kamal Quadir, CEO of bKash, Chan Heng Chee, Ambassador-at-Large for the Singapore Foreign Ministry, and Raghuram Rajan, the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at Chicago University’s Booth School of Business.

Although the price of XRP experienced a decline on the opening day, Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse emphasized that the drop in price did not impact the success of Ripple. Garlinghouse also discussed the challenges facing the crypto market and expressed confidence in the long-term value of XRP.

Ripple announced significant milestones during Swell 2019, including surpassing 300 customers, growing the usage of its On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) product, and increasing the number of transactions using ODL.
